{"id":9791,"date":"2022-05-09T13:32:10","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T11:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/?p=9791"},"modified":"2022-05-09T13:39:00","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T11:39:00","slug":"manzan-gold-medal-challenge-international-du-vin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/en\/manzan-gold-medal-challenge-international-du-vin","title":{"rendered":"Manz\u00e1n, the unmistakable Bobal from Casa Lo Alto, wins a Gold Medal at the Challenge International du Vin"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Casa Lo Alto&#8217;s Bobal wine competes in the world&#8217;s most prestigious wine competition and wins its first Gold Medal in Bordeaux, up against <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">3,179 wines from 26 producer countries <\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Venta del Moro (Valencia), 25\u00a0April, 2022 \u2013 The good work of the Casa Lo Alto team, with its concept of &#8220;Vino de Paraje&#8221; (single-vineyard wines), has just reaped its reward with the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">2020 Manz\u00e1n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> taking an important <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Gold Medal<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> at the Challenge International du Vin, held recently in Bordeaux.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Manz\u00e1n is the red wine made from the native Bobal variety from three small plots of gobelet-trained vines planted between 1940 and 1965. This structure saves water and protects the vines from excessive sun in the summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">These vineyards are tilled with environmentally sustainable viticulture practices,<\/span> <span lang=\"en-GB\">as is carried out with the estate&#8217;s almond trees and the Garnacha vineyards, which are used to produce <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Rocha<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> red wine, and the Tardana, the white grape variety that features in <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Trena<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">To enhance the features typical of this site and its different plots, the use of synthetic chemical products is avoided in favour of a living soil, rich in microfauna, which makes each plot different. Those particular features are transmitted to each Casa Lo Alto wine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">The weather in 2020 was cool and rainy, and the grapes ripened slowly until the Bobal harvest, which took place at the end of September. Different percentages of whole bunches were used to make Manz\u00e1n. The rest of the grapes were destemmed and uncrushed. Fermentation began spontaneously, using indigenous yeasts. After pressing, the must was transferred to concrete tanks and vats, where the wine was aged for 10 months on its lees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9787\" src=\"https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premio-Chal-Intern-Vin-22-Manzan-1-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premio-Chal-Intern-Vin-22-Manzan-1-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premio-Chal-Intern-Vin-22-Manzan-1-1024x724.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premio-Chal-Intern-Vin-22-Manzan-1-600x424.jpg 600w, https:\/\/casaloalto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premio-Chal-Intern-Vin-22-Manzan-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Challenge International du Vin, the oldest and most prestigious wine competition in France<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">The <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">Challenge International du Vin<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\"> is organised in the form of a blind tasting and is open to all wines and wine-based spirits in the world.
